There’s just nothing more relaxing than cozying up with a good book. Whether you are the kind of person who loves to hold a hard copy of your favorite reads in your hands, an ebook reader where you can read on the go easily or you prefer to devour your newest obsession via audiobooks while commuting or spring cleaning.
I personally love to read books, which was something I began to do at a young age. I started of with purely fiction but I graduated to non- fiction, biographies and any other book I can put my hands on.
What I love about books is that they always have something to teach, they constantly open our eyes to see life from another persons perspective. With some books we learn about family life, relationships, faith, love, career and many more.
Most of us start the year talking about building our reading culture or hoping to tackle at least 12 books to read in the year; 1 for each month.
With practically majority of the nations of the earth currently spending time indoors, with the stay at home order one would think we would have gone through at least 2 books right now but Netflix, #dontrushchallenges, TikTok and a million other things have taken over. Don’t get me wrong, these things have their place and there is no harm in doing any of them.
But if you are looking to reading more books this year but you can’t find the time to read, here are 5 tips to help you cultivate the reading culture;
How To Find Time To Read
1. Set a time to read:
It could be while having your breakfast in the morning or before going to bed at night. Setting a time to read would help you structure in a book into your daily routine. It could be for 30 minutes or more or maybe less.
2. Make a list and start with your favorite:
Create a list of your favorite books to read, and if you don’t have one yet, stick around till the end of this post for 12 books you can start with. Start with your favorite or the one that catches your eye first.
3. Find a quiet place or a reading spot:
Find a place you can retreat to in your home where you can seat with your book and read. I have heard of people reading in their closet, garden, dining area. Anywhere is fine, so far you won’t be disturbed.
4. Make your reading pleasurable:
Grab a cup of tea or coffee, eat a few snacks, seat by the window, curl up in a chair, light a few candles. Make reading a book pleasurable.
5. Download audibles:
This is really good especially if you are constantly on the move. You can listen when on the go, while cleaning etc.
