Halfway through the month already and the happy new year posts, resolutions & goals posts are slowly winding down, reality is setting in and it’s important to look for ways to constantly motivate yourself before life happens. Most times by the time it’s the end of the month, people tend to forget about all they wanted to do because I guess life happens or there was nothing to motivate them to keep pushing.
Personally, I always look for ways to motivate myself and try to stay on course no matter what comes my way. If you are looking for a way to motivate yourself through out this year 2020, then this blogpost is for you.
HERE ARE 6 WAYS TO MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO HAVE THE BEST YEAR:
- WRITE YOUR GOALS OUT AND MAKE THEM VISIBLE
“Then the Lord replied to me. And he said, ‘Write down what I will show to you. Make it very clear on the page where you write it. Then the runner can tell people all about it.”- Habakkuk 2:2 EASY
Write out the goals you have for the year and put them where you can see them daily. Is it on your fridge? On your wardrobe door? On the table at work? In your notebook or dairy? On your phone as a screensaver? I have found out that when I constantly see what I want to achieve, I start thinking of creative ways to achieve it
Action plan: Write out your goals for the year and paste them where you know you would see them daily.
2. TAKE THE PRESSURE OFF YOUR SELF
Let’s not try to do so many things at the same time because it would to a burn out! Divide your goals into short term and long term goals. For example my goal this year is to get 10,000 page views every month on Pearls and pencil – now this is a long term goal. My short term goal is to post 1-2 blogposts each week in order to achieve that goal.
Action Plan: Divide your goals into short term and long term goals. Try to ease into things gently when planning them out.
3. REWARD YOURSELF
When you smash those goals of yours, give yourself a treat! It could be simple or elaborate such as buying ice cream or taking a vacation. Learn to celebrate your wins because they would motivate you to keep moving.
Action plan: Set up a reward system for yourself, you can tie it to the achievement of a goal be it long or short term.
4. FIND AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER
“A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.”- Ecclesiastes 4:12 NLT
Find someone that you trust and can share your goals with knowing fully well they would constantly remind and encourage you to do them. I have a few friends, like Joke Ishmael that I tell about what I want to achieve per season and more often than not they even come up with various ways I can achieve those things and constantly remind me to do them.
Action plan: Look for someone you can trust; it could be a family member, friend, colleague, mentor and ask them if they can be your accountability partner. Tell to remind you about why you started what you are doing and don’t forget to reciprocate too!
5. SPEAK WORDS OF AFFIRMATION CONSTANTLY
Along the road to achieve your goals, there would be moments of doubt or fear that would come up. It’s important to constantly speak positive affirmations or words of faith over your life. The moment you keep saying it, when negativity comes up, your heart and mind already has a positive answer for it. For example, instead of saying ‘I have so much work to do today, I might not finish today’ Replace it with ‘if I start now, I can get it done on time’
Action Plan: Every morning day 5 positive things about yourself, let’s do this for a whole month and it would be a habit.
6. TAKE TIME OUT TO RELAX, REFLECT AND RE-STRATEGIZE
If you are looking at your goals and it doesn’t look like you have achieved or are going to achieve them, take a pause and look at work could be wrong somewhere. Sometimes all we need is a little patience or a small tweak in our strategy.
Action plan: Set out time to relax, reflect and re-strategize. It could be done quarterly, you get to see how far you have gone and where you need to continue or maybe re-strategize.
There you have it friends – 6 ways to motivate yourself to have the best year.
