Making a good and lasting first impression can set you on a good path with new connections, which could help you make friends easily. Through blogging I have a learnt a bit from making good first impressions and i am still in the learning process but I have connected with some amazing people through it
First things first
- Look good
Dress the way you want to be addressed. Look good, make your hair. Fix up your makeup and little mascara and lipstick won’t hurt.
- Good vibes
This is pretty much the beginning and end of making a good impression. Once you get a hang of this; you are good to go. You have to believe in your self first, develop self confidence by making a few positive affirmations in your head with time you start to believe it. When you enter a room, start of by greeting with a smile and introduce yourself “Hello, my name is (insert your name) ” 9/10 times you would get a response. You bring the good vibes and you should definitely get it back
- Prepare some questions and facts about yourself
How awkward would it be, when you finally get someone’s attention but can’t keep it because you have nothing to say. If you are meeting someone new, gave a few thoughtful questions in the bank and probably a few interesting facts about yourself. Chat and find a common denominator.
What school did you finish from?
What course did you study?
What is your dream holiday destination?.
If you could choose anyone alive or dead to be your mentor, who would it be?
It’s very important to study the person you are talking to so as not to put them off with random questions.
- Know your body language
A confidence stance can suggest you’re more enthusiastic while slouching can suggest low energy levels and low self esteem. People like to feel important, if your body language is directed to them you are speaking to, it can suggest you value their time. Folding your hands, fiddling with your phone or hands are no no’s
- Make eye contact
This suggest you are on the same level and comfortable with the person you are talking to. Try not to stare too long cause then the other person may begin to feel uncomfortable. Remember practice makes perfect!
- Be an active listener
Make sure you at least really engage in a conversation by being focused on the subject at hand, making gestures of agreement – but be sincere
- Sincerity is key
Number rule of making a good impression is Sincerity. Never underestimate the power of instinct. People tend to detect when you are not sincere. Just be yourself. Be confident that being yourself is always the right way.
